Supporting Aboriginal Communities with Accessible, Purpose-Driven Design

We created a user-friendly, culturally aware website for NAAFLS, designed specifically for audiences with lower levels of English proficiency. The platform focuses on clarity and accessibility, using simplified language, intuitive navigation and visual cues to ensure information is easy to understand and act on.

A key feature of the site is a custom-built services map, developed to clearly show when and where NAAFLS will be delivering free services across remote NT communities. This interactive tool allows users to quickly find relevant locations and dates, helping improve awareness and access to vital support services.

The result is a practical, inclusive digital platform that bridges communication gaps and ensures important information reaches the people who need it most.

Real Time “Where We Work” Interactive Map

We developed a custom “Where We Work” map that gives communities a clear, visual way to see when NAAFLS will be in their area. The map is colour-coded for simplicity – red shows locations not currently being visited, yellow highlights upcoming scheduled dates, and green indicates where staff are actively providing services.

Built with accessibility and low English speaking audiences in mind, this feature makes it easy for users to quickly understand service availability at a glance, helping communities stay informed and better plan when to access support.

The resources section also provides easy access to downloadable materials for individuals experiencing family violence. These resources are designed to be clear, practical, and immediately useful – offering guidance, support information and next steps in a format that can be accessed offline when needed.

By making these materials simple to find and download, the platform ensures that people can access vital information quickly and discreetly, helping them feel informed, supported and safer in difficult situations.
