Augmented Treasure Hunt

Interactive Road Safety

We created an engaging Web AR experience designed to educate and connect with the community during Road Safety Week NT. Accessible directly through a mobile browser – no app required, this interactive treasure hunt encouraged users to explore locations across the Darwin region in a fun and meaningful way.

Using an interactive digital map, participants could navigate to different points of interest where physical ground stickers were placed. By scanning each location, users unlocked augmented reality experiences featuring road safety messages brought to life through interactive animations.

Each location delivered a unique message – reinforcing safe behaviours while keeping users engaged through discovery and play. The more locations participants found, the more they learned, creating a rewarding experience that blended education with exploration.

This project showcased how Web AR can transform public awareness campaigns, making them more accessible, interactive and memorable while encouraging real-world participation.

Road Safety Characters

To make the experience even more engaging and recognisable, we incorporated existing road safety characters as part of the AR journey. These familiar characters were integrated into the ground stickers, acting as visual markers that users could easily spot throughout the locations.

When users pointed their device at the character, the experience came to life on screen. The characters animated in place – delivering key road safety messages in a fun, interactive and memorable way. This added a layer of personality and storytelling, making the content more relatable, especially for younger audiences.

By turning well-known characters into interactive AR triggers, we created a seamless blend between the physical environment and digital experience, reinforcing important messages while keeping users engaged through familiarity and play.
